Kalouf (France)
Kalouf was born in Gabon in 1978 and lives in Lyon. He is part of the artist collective “Blast Art.”
Originating from hip-hop culture and raised on graffiti, Kalouf has built his artistic identity at the heart of several artistic collectives since the early 1990s. Through collaborative projects, solo works, and experimental approaches (anamorphosis, video mapping, etc.), he acquired the skills to create murals of monumental dimensions. In particular, his work has evolved toward the realization of animal forms, which he creates using innovative technologies.
The son of a herpetologist, Kalouf spent the early years of his life in the equatorial lagoon near Gamba, Gabon. He bathed in a rich wildlife and lush forests and grew up in the company of snakes, monkeys, birds, and elephants kept by his father. Back in France, shaped by this environment, he spent his time observing, treating, or playing with every animal he encountered along the way. Kalouf draws inspiration from nature, incorporating animals into his creations on urban walls to question the place of the animal in an increasingly urbanized world. The unexpected encounters of wild animals with the urban environment give his work an engaging dimension.
